This weekend, 20 of us from CrossFit Mendip are heading over the bridge, crossing borders, and probably crossing loyalties too—because it’s Bristol Bears vs. Bath Rugby at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, and we’re bringing the noise.
It’s not just any game. It’s rugby. It’s Wales. It’s Bears vs. Bath—and depending on who you ask, it’s either a casual weekend away or an all-out tribal war.
Let’s talk factions.
Team Bears
Leading the charge (and the chants) for the Bears we’ve got Amy and Daryl, loyal to the core and already practising their celebratory pint raises. They’ve promised not to gloat too much if Bristol takes the win. (They’re lying.)
You’ll spot them in head-to-toe Bears merch, probably holding signs, probably singing, and definitely reminding everyone who brought more fans.
Team Bath
Holding the fort for Bath? Danny. Bath’s lone warrior… except not so lone, because it turns out the group is perfectly split—half Bears, half Bath.
Danny’s been suspiciously quiet all week, but we know he’s just saving his energy for a dramatic entrance and an even more dramatic victory speech (if Bath pulls it off). We’re guessing it’ll include the words “class,” “tradition,” and possibly “get in!”
What’s This Got to Do With CrossFit?
Everything.
Our gym isn’t just about barbells, burpees, and getting sweaty in a socially acceptable way. It’s about community. And nothing says community like piling into cars, hopping on trains, and shouting at elite athletes from the nosebleeds together.
This trip is one of many socials we’ve got lined up this year, because let’s be honest—fitness is more fun with friends, especially when those friends will argue for hours about which team has the better scrum.
Whether you’re a diehard fan or just here for the snacks, these weekends remind us that CrossFit isn’t just a workout—it’s a tribe. One that lifts together, trains together, and occasionally heckles each other in a stadium packed with 70,000 people.
We’ll be repping CrossFit Mendip loud and proud—between bites of pie and pints of whatever’s on tap. Expect laughs, selfies, friendly banter, and probably a group photo where someone’s mid-blink.
Want In Next Time?
These socials are open to everyone—new members, OGs, and even those who still think a WOD is something you clean up after your dog. Whether it’s rugby, hikes, pub quizzes, or beach days, our member events are the glue between the barbells. The fun between the front squats.
So if you’re missing out this time, don’t worry—we’ve got plenty more in the pipeline. Keep an eye on the board in the gym, the WhatsApp group, or just ask Amy (she probably has an event calendar already colour-coded).
Now, back to the important stuff…
COME ON YOU BEARS
